Are you a keen collector of books on conjuring, scientific experiments and vintage illustrations?

Then keep reading:

These books were written by two notable French personalities.

They are Arthur Good and Gaston Tissandier.

Arthur Good (pen name Tom Tit) was a French engineer and Science educator.

He wrote a series of weekly articles titled “La Science Amusante” (Amusing Science) for the French news periodical called L’Illustration.

Note: Here is an archive with the complete issues of L’Illustration.

Arthur Good or Tom Tit’s books are not about magic tricks per se.

He showed you how to do magical experiments based on physical and scientific principles with every day household items.

In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, they assembled his fun and amusing experiments of “La Science Amusante” into a book form.

You can find beautiful illustrations done with wood engravings in this book.

They were rendered by well-known engraver Louis Poyet and his assistants.

These vintage illustrations were really impressive.

Even the Surrealists used them for collage.
