It seems to me the KL CityWalk project at Jalan P.Ramlee is a total flop. This so-called Kuala Lumpur’s latest attraction the KL CityWalk was officially launched by city mayor Tan Sri Ahmad Fuad Ismail December 2011.

According the Star, this first 500m alfresco strip mall in the city, is a place where heritage and history are captured through hand-picked emerging Malaysian entrepreneurs.
Trend Matrix (the company which developed this project) managing director Ronnie Choong said that KL City Walk is at the strategic location in the immediate area offered an ideal place to meet and revel in the sights, sounds and taste of the city.

But strangely, the only sights I see are many empty shop lots, quiet walkway, abandoned dusty furniture, and posters advertising shop lots to be rent out. The only sound is the din coming from the construction site next to it. As for the taste, health-hazard dust from the just mentioned construction site.

KL CityWalk or the longest strip mall in KL is supposed to be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. But most of the days, many of the shops are not even opened during lunch time yet. Saturday afternoon is supposed to be the most happening time in Kuala Lumpur, but this place is eerily quiet, except for the noise from the construction site next to it. As I have mentioned, there are many vacant shop lots; both, new lots still not rented out until today and those which have already moved out.

If you don’t believe me, check out for yourself this Saturday afternoon. And some of my photos here.
I doubt both the locals and tourists would bother to visit this barren strip. Now with the opening of Bukit Bintang KLCC Pedestrian Walkway, most folks would totally avoid KL City Walk. They just use this clean comfortable air-conditioned 1.173km-long pedestrian bridge to visit KLCC and Bukit Bintang areas. I think this longest pedestrian strip mall in KL located at the intersection of Jalan P Ramlee and Jalan Pinang is going to be another another white elephant, or worst still, KL CityWalk would be totally abandoned soon.
