The former journalist with Shin Chew dailyRev Ou Yang Wen Feng who lives in New York and serves at the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) in New York. According to him, it is his former wife of nine-year marriage, who provides him strength to be true to himself. Recently, 41 year-old trendy gay pastor Rev Ou Yang Wen Feng is back in the Malaysia latest news. This time is about his coming marriage to his African-American partner Phineas Newborn III by the end of the month or early September. The wedding ceremonies will be in both New York and Malaysia. Of course same-gender marriage and Muslim transsexuals changing their gender are illegal in Malaysia. Talking about same sex marriage in Malaysia, remember in September, 2007, the Islamic court in the central state of Melaka annuled the marriage between 40-year-old Mohd Sufian Mohamad and 43-year-old Zaiton Aziz, as the abang or husband is actually a gadis Melayu (Malay girl). The so-called husband was born Mazinah Mohamad. They were married in 2002.
Strangely, according to the bride Zaiton, she said had never seen or touched her husband’s “down-under” and had taken him to be a man all along. She said she felt good and satisfied together with her partner.
In April this year, an Orang Asli transsexual singer Kajol Kelantan whose real name is Mohd Hafiz Jeffri pleaded guilty to the charges on on dressing as a female (cross dressing) and also for indecent dressing in public at an expo site.
Then last month, the news of the sudden death of Malay-Muslim transsexual Ashraf Hafiz Abdul Aziz. This former pharmaceutical assistant who underwent a full sex-change operation in Thailand in 2008, but he could not change the name on his identity card to that of a female.
Even though officially Malaysia doesn’t accept same-gender marriage, on July 31, 2011, a lesbian couple known as Thomas and Apple got married in Batu Pahat, Johor. It is the first reported lesbian marriage in Malaysia. 29 year-old Thomas and 27 year-old Apple, who are both property brokers underwent a traditional Chinese tea ceremony at their home.
Then of course there is this well-known Malaysia-born lesbian Penny Wong; who is presently Australia’s Finance Minister. Recently she announced that her female partner Sophie Allouache is expecting a child conceived through IVF using donor sperm.
Not forgetting the controversial marriage of transsexual Jessie Chung and Joshua Beh back in 2005. I am sure there will be more Chinese same-sex marriages in Malaysia in the future.
