Surprisingly, according to the show producer Datin Seri Tiara Jacquelina, the earlier staging of this award-winning (BOH Cameronian Arts Awards) musical was a success, but now she could not get any sponsorship.

Isn’t it strange?

Tiara added that she decided to stage the show for the third time, because Allahyarham P. Ramlee was a true Malaysian icon who appealed to audiences of all races and telling his story to the younger generation was a way of keeping his legend alive.

But then, why now no one from the corporate sector and government is interested in funding this musical about the legendary entertainer P. Ramlee?

This musical was written by Adlin Aman Ramlie and co-directed by Adlin and Zahim Albakri.

The music was composed by multi-talented Dick Lee of Singapore and orchestral arrangements by Indonesia’s Erwin Gutawa.

Anyway, they managed to get the third season of “P. Ramlee The Musical” up and swinging.

P. Ramlee Memorial Taman Setapak
Next, we read in The Star that P. Ramlee’s house aka P. Ramlee Memorial in Taman Setapak was sealed and going to be auctioned off by City Hall.

The family living there has failed to pay quit rent arrears amounting to RM10,220 over the past 10 years!

The house was bought by Tan Sri P. Ramlee in the 1960s, but he had never stayed in it before.

It is just a house he bought. And then Sri Gading MP Datuk Mohamad Aziz proposed that the house be made a heritage site.

Interestingly, Datuk Mohamad Aziz accused City Hall’s action was “disrespectful to the legendary entertainer”.

The issue of not paying the quit rent has noting to do with P. Ramlee or showing disrespectful to the late Malay superstar.

But the actual P. Ramlee’s house is in Penang at 4A Caunter Hall Road (Jalan P Ramlee) is more significant, because it is his birthplace; even though it belonged to his grandmother.

Then we have read and heard so much talk about P. Ramlee died poor stories.

Remember the legendary own co-star Aziz Satar who revealed in a TV documentary that the former had to eat egg and rice for his meals!

Then the shocking story of P. Ramlee’s confession of his lifestyle before he died from a heart attack on 29 May 1973.

But whatever it is, his many fans would always remember P. Ramlee’s significant contribution to the local entertainment scene.
