AirAsia Cabin Baggage And Checked-in Baggage Information

Here I have gathered the important information about AirAsia cabin baggage limits, size and restrictions and also regulations about AirAsia checked-in baggage

Information About Cabin Bag or Hand Luggage (bag which you can carry with you when you board the plane).

According to AirAsia’s Terms & conditions of carriage,  Article 8.6 states:

Passengers (except infants) are allowed two (2) items of baggage to be carried on board.

The items of baggage may be a combination of any two of the following: cabin bag or a laptop bag or a handbag.

The cabin bag shall not exceed the dimensions of 56cm X 36cm X 23cm and must not weigh more than 7kg. Such baggage must fit under the seat in front of you or in an enclosed storage compartment in the cabin.

Items determined by us to be of excessive weight or size or of an offensive nature will not be permitted on board.

In other words, you can only carry in ONE bag within the dimensions of 56cm X 36cm X 23cm and it does not weigh more than 7kg into the plane with you together with a handbag or a laptop bag. So, you can carry TWO (2) bags with you into the plane.

Information About AirAsia Checked-In Baggage (bags to be carried by the plane):

The luggage dimensions and weight for checked baggage is, combined dimensions of not more that 81cm X 119cm wide X 119cm. For health and safety reasons, any individual item must not exceed 32 kgs. This weight limit does not apply to mobility equipment.

Once baggage weight has been purchased it is non-refundable.

There is no restriction for the quantity of luggage to check in as long as TOTAL WEIGHT is below the baggage allowance you booked.

For safety and health reasons, AirAsia will not accept items which weight more than 32kg and have a combined dimension of 81cm in height, 119cm in width and 119cm in depth. The maximum weight stated here does not apply to motorized appliances.

You within the same booking number can share or pool baggage as long as they have purchased the relevant baggage weight allowance.

Baggage Supersize  checked baggage service. You can choose from three tiers of Baggage Supersize allowance which is Regular, Medium and Large.

You can upgrade the weight of Baggage Supersize not less than 24 hours prior to departure at AirAsia’s call centre/sales office/airport sales counter.

The maximum pre-booked weight is 30kg. However, the Baggage Supersize Fee is non-refundable should a guest decide to downgrade the checked baggage weight.

If you think that your check in baggage is going to be more than 15kg, it is better to pre-booked the Supersize medium (20kg) or Supersize large (25kg). Note that you can not upgrade this at the airport, if you opt for the 15kg, the excess weight will be charged as excess baggage fee which is very much more expensive.

Pre-booked Baggage Supersize Fee provides you a choice to purchase from a minimum of 15kg to a maximum of 30kg on a discounted rate (discounts up to 50%). While the Airport Rate only allows you to pay for up to 15kg and any weight thereafter will be charged as excess baggage at the applicable rate.

There is no limit to the pieces and weight of checked baggage provided the relevant fees and charges are paid.

Note: The above are the proper rules and regulation according AirAsia. But, from my personal observations and also  from what I have heard from friends who are regular AirAsia travelers, most of the time, you can carry in more than two bags into the plane with you. AirAsia is not very stringent with the above cabin baggage rulings.
