Here is a little known information among many Malaysians. If you have an EPF (Employee’s Provident Fund) account, there is this thing called Death Benefit payment of RM2,500.
Note: This is different from the normal Death Withdrawal. It is hidden inside the Death Withdrawal information. It is listed under Terms Of Withdrawal and look for item C. (http://www.kwsp.gov.my/portal/documents/10180/178828/Risalah_Kematian_Oktober_2012__Eng_-1.pdf)
This money is given to the dependents of the deceased members as a gesture of compassion and to ease their financial burden.
This benefit will only be given once.
These are following conditions required:
1) Malaysian citizen;
2) Member has not reached the age of 55 at time of death;
3) Application for Death Withdrawal is made within 6 months from the date of the demise of the member.
The Death Benefit is made payable to the members’ dependent or next-of-kin when the application. [source]
