Personally I’m not surprised (because I’m not drunk) at this finding. Malaysians not only love their cholesterol-laden nasi lemak or fried chow kwei tiaw to death, consumption of  beer and samsu (the generic name for cheap spirits) is another one of their favorite pastime.

As reported by Malaysia latest news, statistics by the international body this year also revealed Malaysians spent over US$500mil on alcohol with a per capita consumption of seven litres. And the beer consumption in Malaysia is 11 litres per capita.

Now I know why many Malaysians love to talk cock all the time; they are actually tipsy lah. As Samuel Johnson said: “This is one of the disadvantages of wine:  it makes a man mistake words for thought“.

Back in 2001, Mary Asunta and Mr Idris, President Penang Consumer Association and Mr Hamid, President of TERAS respectively, have said that Malaysians have an active local spirits industry which produces approximately US$43.4 million (RM180million) worth of samsu, per year.
