There is this newly opened guest house in Melaka called Kawan Kawan (Malay word for friends). It is strategically located at No. 36, Jalan Tukang Besi. Right in the smack of quaint Jonker enclave.
To be precise, it is near the cross roads of Jalan Tukang Besi, Jalan Tukang Emas and Jalan Hang Kasturi. Right opposite is Tua Pek Kong Temple (the second photo below) and diagonally across the cross roads is the famous Teo Soon Loong Teochew Seafood Restaurant.
This simple charming guest house is very near to the famous Jonker Walk, Orang Utan House, Malacca Clock Tower, The Stadthuys, East & West Rendezvous, and all those historical heritage attractions and food stalls.
The place is run by a friendly and helpful elderly Chinese couple. It offers five different types of rooms:
1.Deluxe Double (one queen size bed/attached bathroom)
2.Standard Twin (two separate single bed, NO attached bathroom)
3.Double Room (one queen bed, NO attached bathroom)
4. Family Room (three single beds, NO attached bathroom)
5. Family Room (four single beds, NO attached bathroom)
As I have mentioned Kawan Kawan Guest House is newly opened, just half a year ago. So the place is spick and speck. In fact, every review at Tripadvisor said favorable things about this lodging in Melaka.
Facilities: Free Wifi access, water dispenser, electric iron, kettle and hair dryer upon request. There is a TV at the pantry. The shared bathrooms and toilets are at downstairs.
If you book your room from its website, www.kawankawan.com.my (operated by a third party) or from those hotel booking sites, you will find the rates are rather expensive; ranging from RM 98 onwards. You should contact the guest house directly at: +606-2818272. (call for Mr or Madam Tan). You can get as the price of a room as low as RM50 nett.
