As reported in the Malaysian news, the statistics show that the prevalence of obesity among Malaysian adults increased by 250% over a 10-year period from 1996. And the number of overweight has increased by 70%.

60 percent of Malaysians aged 18 and above had a body mass index (BMI) of over 23.

Besides lacked of exercise, the other contributing factors to Malaysia obesity problem are: Malaysians poor eating habits (daily supper at 24-hour Mamak foodstalls), and  too much focus on dining and cooking on mass-media and websites (foodies).

Calories In Malaysian Food
Our varieties of local food is packed with calories, cholesterol, sodium, sugar, santan (coconut milk) and way  too low-quality cooking oil. We should be eating natural food, these days Malaysians love processed food; especially tim sum and the so-called vegetarian food.

calories in malaysian foodI’m sure you realize those calories-laden fast food commercials are “so good” in their marketing and execution, as compared to those poorly produced public service ads from Ministry of Health Malaysia. They are so uninspiring and boring.

Do you know that being overweight and obese could lead to chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems, kidney disease and even cancer? For you Malaysian men, you could end up with mati pucuk or erectile dysfunction.

If you really want to improve your general health and well-being, it’s time to change your poor eating habits, exercise, learn to relax, quit smoking and go for your regular medical check up.

Talking about exercise, you do not have to signup with a gym or health club. Just go for brisk walking every now and then in your neighborhood parks. Or just simply walk more, instead of driving your car. From my personal experience, you will defintely lose weight, feel more spirited, more relaxed and your bad cholesterol level will reduce gradually.

And as for food, reduce consuming hawker food, forgo your instant stuff (noodles, coffee, etc) and canned drinks. Eat natural food  all kinds of vegetables and fruits. Drink plenty of clean plain water.  Eat less white rice and white bread. You should go for brown rice and wholemeal bread instead.

One foodstuff which can actually reduce your LDL (low density lipoprotein) or “bad cholesterol” is eating oats. I have been taking oats for some time now, and I have stopped taking my cholesterol-lowering drug or simvastatin.
