Check out this interesting health facts: This is what I overheard the other day at the mamak stall. Two Malaysian men were having their teh tarik, when one of them (an obese Chinaman) complained, “Bloody hot today, man? Even though my car air conditioning was blasting away, yet I was sweating like a pig.”
Then his equally fat Indian companion started telling our “sweating pig” about the danger which links to driving a car, car air conditioning, and other stuff.
As usual, he said that according to a research, your car air con, dashboard, sofa, and those artificial fragrant air freshener, all these emit or give out Benzene.
This Benzene is a colorless, flammable liquid which evaporates very fast when exposes to air. Based on studies in both people and laboratory animals, Benzene is known to be carcinogenic or to cause cancer.
There is a lot of evidence that Benzene is carcinogenic. A carcinogen is any substance that can cause or aggravate cancer. So carcinogenic means the ability or tendency to produce cancer.
Furthermore, Benzene is said to poison your bones, causes anemia and reduces white blood cells. It also affects your kidney and liver. If you exposed to it for a long period of time, it can even cause Leukemia, and miscarriage.
“Ai-yah, I’m not worrying about miscarriage lah. I’m just fat and not pregnant, ” the fat Chinaman interrupted jokingly.
He went on to explained that the acceptable Benzene level indoors is 50mg per sq.ft. For you information, a car parked indoors with windows closed will contain 400-800 mg of Benzene.
But if it is parked outdoors under the blazing sun at a temperature above 60 degrees F, the Benzene level shoots up to HK +852 20004000 mg; which is 40 times the acceptable level.
Well, now you know you could be driving your way to hell, even though you driving slowly and carefully. This is some interesting health facts.
