The Day I Loved Drawing Because Of Andrew Loomis

The day I loved drawing was on my 14th birthday back in the groovy Seventies.

My dad gave me an instruction art book as a birthday gift.

It was “Fun With A Pencil: How Everybody Can Easily Learn To Draw” by Andrew Loomis.

That day, I can draw just by following its step-by-step instructions.

As a result, I love to draw.

I have been drawing, sketching, designing and painting ever since.

Yes, and it is true as what the sub-title says, everybody can easily learn to draw from this 1939 book.

This 120-page drawing instructional book sparked my love for drawing and other form of visual art.

That include cartooning, fashion designing and visual merchandising.

I can definitely say that birthday present changed my life.

My passion for art grew from that simple art book, and that was how my career path as an artist, designer and cartoonist was destined.

I went on to purchase the other five drawing instructional books by Andrew Loomis.

Of course back in those days, I did not know much about this great American illustrator, author, and art instructor.

Andrew Loomis was known for his brilliant commercial work featured prominently in advertising and magazines.

Legendary Loomis produced iconic advertising paintings for companies, which include Coca Cola, Studebaker, Palmolive, Quaker Oats, Munsingwear and Kellogg’s.

His early prints have become highly collectible and sought out by art enthusiasts and artists.

You can viewed some of his great realistic style illustrations over here.

Illustrator Andrew Loomis’ works have influenced many today’s well-known comic book artists, including Alex Ross, Dick Giordano, Steve Rude, and Steve Lieber.

For those of you who want to draw better, or who aspire to be a professional artist, you have come to the right place.

I have searched far and wide deep into the web, and managed to find all the free series of instructional art books by Andrew Loomis.

Except for the 2014 book titled: “I’d Love To Draw“.

Anyway, many of the content in this book is quite similar to the one in “Fun With a Pencil“.
