不脫襪的人 A Fishy Story
In this comedy drama film, Maggie Cheung plays an aspiring starlet who leads wealthy men on in hopes of furthering her acting career.
While Kenny Bee, her neighbor, who lives upstairs is a struggling taxi driver and a rich woman’s toy boy.
In the beginning of the story, Kenny and Maggie don’t get along well and even despise each other.
However, after they both have gone through the ups and downs individually, they gradually become parts of each other.
There is a funny scene where Kenny Bee makes a big fuss over the money which the rich lady leaves for him.
He tears up the paper note, throws it away, and then picks it up and tape the torn pieces together with cellophane tape
There are two humorous scenes in the movies which involved Maggie Cheung.
One is where Maggie tries to order food in English in a posh restaurant.
The other one is when she learns to speak English language from a Sikh character, while she is filing her nails away.
The English lesson is:
Every Monday I eat chicken curry.
Every Tuesday I take a cup of tea.
Every Wednesday I eat spaghetti or chapati.
The 1959 hit song “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” by The Platters is used for the black and white opening montage and the closing of the film.
“A Fishy Story” was critically acclaimed and box office hit in Hong Kong and received raving reviews by critics.
In fact, Maggie Cheung won her very first Best Actress Awards for this movie at 9th Hong Kong Film Awards.
Maggie Cheung went on to win the Best Actress Awards again at the Hong Kong Film Awards, for movies which include: “Comrades: Almost A Love Story” (1997), “The Soong Sisters” (1998), and “In The Mood For Love” (2001).
