I have assembled a big collection of Modern Mechanix And Inventions magazine here.
All these free magazines are found online with Google search engine.
This is another post from the Info Ruckus Free Books Google Search Results Page series.
These how-to-do-it past issues started way back in 1928.
It went through so many changes over the years.
In 1928, the monthly magazine started out as “Modern Mechanics And Inventions”.
Then the August 1932 issue, the word “Mechanics” changed to “Mechanix”.
So it was called “Modern Mechanix And Inventions”.
The July 1935 issue, it was called “Modern Mechanix And Inventions Magazine”.
As from the July 1936 issue, it added a subtitle to it.
And it is called “Modern Mechanix: Hobbies And Inventions”.
Come August 1937 issue, it added “Handicraft” to the subtitle.
So, it was known as: “Modern Mechanix: Hobbies Inventions Handicraft”.
Then October 1937, it changed it to just “Modern Mechanix”.
The June 1938 issue, “Modern Mechanix” became “Mechanix Illustrated”.
From February 1954 issue, it included the sub-title: “The How-To-Do Magazine”.
September 1980, it changed the sub-title to “How To Energy Automotive”.
January 1982, the sub-title was replaced with “How To Home Improvement Automotive”.
February 1984, the sub-title changed to “Helps You Manage Your House And Auto Better”.
In January 1985, “Mechanix Illustrated” changed to “Home Mechanix”.
The sub-title “Helps You Manage Your House And Auto Better” stayed until the the October 1987 issue, it changed to “Helps Homeowners Save Time And Money”.
Then July 1989 issue, it changed to “Manage Your Home”.
From June 1991 issue, the sub-title was “Manage Your Home In The 90s” until the last issue.
The last issue “Home Mechanix” is July/August 1996.
The following month September 1996, “Home Mechanix” finally changed to “Today’s Homeowner”.
The last issue of “Today’s Homeowner” is March/April 2001.
Some of you may wonder why I am so fond of collecting old outdated magazines, which include Popular Science, Life Magazine, Esquire Magazine, Strand Magazine, old scientific experiment books, etc.
Do you know you can find lots of ideas and tips hidden among these old publications?
It is not about copying, but it is an immensely rich source, where it can trigger and ignite new innovative ideas.
As you know, everything new is made from something old.
New artwork, literary work, and music are constantly inspired and adapted from the past creations.
You can just revisit and rework ideas from the past, and view them from a novel perspective.
Being creative is about blue-skies thinking with lots of resources at your disposal.
Blue sky thinking means brainstorming ideas with no limits.
Anything goes, regardless of their practicality.
Just before you check out the freely available old issues of “Modern Mechanix” to “Mechanix Illustrated”, here some tidbits about this magazine.
Beside its superb content, you will love the covers of “Modern Mechanix And Inventions”.
They all featured beautifully hand drawn artwork of futuristic inventions.
In fact, they can turned into great wall posters.
Mimi Mechanix Illustrated
Another interesting feature of this magazine (during Mechanix Illustrated), there was this female character called Mimi.
Mimi was a shapely young woman dressed in blue and white striped overalls.
During the early sixties issues, Mimi wore a matching railroad engineer’s cap.
Check her out in Google Images.
