Popular Science (also known as PopSci) is an quarterly science magazine founded by Edward Livingston Youmans together with his brother William Jay Youmans.

It is meant for the general readers who are fascinated with science, technology, and the future.

PopSci started off in 1872 as “The Popular Science Monthly” and published by D. Appleton & Company.

In 1900, it was sold off and then the following year, American psychologist James McKeen Cattell took over as the publisher.

From the January 1970 issue, it became “Popular Science: The What New Magazine“.

From the January 1990 issue onward, the tag line “The What New Magazine” was removed for good.
