PopSci started off in 1872 as “The Popular Science Monthly” and published by D. Appleton & Company.

In 1900, it was sold off and then the following year, American psychologist James McKeen Cattell took over as the publisher.

From the January 1970 issue, it became “Popular Science: The What New Magazine”.

From the January 1990 issue onward, the tag line “The What New Magazine” was removed for good.

James McKeen Cattell also published another science magazine from 1915 to 1957.

It is called “The Scientific Monthly”.
